Paper Cranes Healthcare COVID-19 Resources

We know this is a scary and unprecedented time. When we started Paper Cranes Healthcare, we made a commitment to our staff, patients, and community to be people you know you can count on. We, as owners, are a family of life-long friends, including husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, and daughters and sons. Our love and concern for each other is the driving force behind our goal of creating a family-oriented primary care practice that feels as if it’s an extension of our family. During these times of uncertainty, this has not and will not change.

If you are in need of assistance, relating to your health or otherwise, please call our offices and we will do everything in our power to help you, even beyond the scope of our normal services. I personally will be available by phone if you would like to speak with me directly – please call and our staff will direct you to me. On this page you will be able to find information related to COVID-19, as well as resources we can provide to you (telemedecine services, prescription refills, etc.) during this time. It will be updated hourly as needed. We are here for you.

Let’s continue to support those around us, and continue to push forward through the times ahead. We cannot thank you enough for your trust in Paper Cranes Healthcare.

Todd Phillips, Owner

We now have the capability to offer Covid-19 Antibody testing provided by Sonora Quest Laboratories. We have waited as other antibody tests have become available on the market, as we are focused on providing the highest (and most accurate) quality of care available. Currently, this test offered by Sonora Quest can only be done if ordered by a Physician. We are happy to collect a sample for testing when an appointment is scheduled (we will not be accepting walk-ins for this service). Being that we believe it is important to be on top of your health in all aspects, we are recommending that this sample be collected in conjunction with your yearly physical. If you have already had your yearly physical, you are still eligible for antibody testing.

Please see the common FAQ (from Sonora Quest) below regarding antibody testing with a full FAQ available here. If you have any questions, please give us a call.

Antibody Test Common FAQ (full FAQ available here):

What is the SARS-CoV-2 antibody test from Sonora Quest?
The Coronavirus COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 Antibody IgG test is a qualitative test to detect IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in your blood. The test code 907097 includes testing for the IgG antibody only and will provide insight into whether an individual has previously been exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and may indicate prior infection which may be resolved or is still resolving, and/or protection against re-infection (“protective immunity”).

What type of specimen is used for the SARS-CoV-2 antibody test?
A serum sample obtained by taking a blood sample.

How much does the COVID-19 antibody test cost?
The COVID-19 antibody test is priced at $65. Based on the regulations and expected coverage for testing, Sonora Quest is not billing patients for this testing when ordered by a physician. A physician ordered COVID-19 test would likely be covered by insurance if the order meets the insurer’s medical coverage guidelines, resulting in zero out-of-pocket expense. It is recommended that patients consult with their primary physician to determine the medical necessity of obtaining COVID-19 testing.
**NOTE: Paper Cranes recommends a physical in conjunction with the antibody test. If Paper Cranes is an in-network provider under the patient’s insurance, there is no cost to the patient for a physical and antibody test**

How does the accuracy of Sonora Quest’s SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody testing performance characteristics compare to other common virology antibody tests routinely performed at Sonora Quest?
Sonora Quest is implementing an immunoassay such as the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We perform our own validation using stringent acceptability criteria for precision, reproducibility, accuracy, method comparison, cross reactivity, and clinical performance before starting patient testing. The accuracy of Sonora Quest’s SARS-CoV-2 serology testing performance characteristics are on par with other common virology antibody tests routinely performed at Sonora Quest (eg, Measles, Mumps, Rubella).

What is the role of serology in return to work/return to daily life decisions?
Our position at Sonora Quest is that antibody testing is an important tool in assessing potential risk and fostering a safer environment for all of us. We look forward to additional science to establish clearly the role of antibody testing in inferring immunity for COVID-19. Other respiratory illnesses, including SARS, a cousin coronavirus of COVID-19, has been shown to produce antibodies that can be assessed via lab testing to infer immune protection for a period of time. We encourage all individuals, regardless of their antibody response/test result, to continue to practice safety and health measures, such as social distancing, to further minimize risk.
